When: 7:30 tonight

Where: Armwood's Lyle Flagg Field, 12000 U.S. 92 E, Seffner.

What for: In terms of big high school football games, there's no better way to start the season.

We're talking about last year's state champs (Plant) vs. a team that has won two state championships and finished runnerup once in the past four years (Armwood).

We're talking about No. 1 vs. No. 2 in the St. Petersburg Times power rankings.

We're talking sellout crowds and painted faces and the difference between 0-1 and 1-0.

What fare: Hungry Harry's Famous Bar-B-Q, 2006 S Parsons Ave. (just south of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard) in Seffner. Go with the Friday night special: all-you- can eat ribs and chicken dinner with sides - for $9.99.

What to wear: Chest paint, shorts, flip-flops and an umbrella. Weatherunderground.com predicts a kickoff high of 80 and a low of 73, with scattered showers and thunderstorms.

Last year: Armwood (11-2) lost 38-20 in the class 4A region final. The Hawks went home after the team's first November loss since 2002. The Panthers went on to win the state championship in storybook fashion with a record of 14-0.

Mascot matchup: In close quarters, Panthers. In the open, Hawks.
