UM's 3-point plan
By Times staff
Published August 31, 2007
Miami's 3-point plan for returning to the national elite 1. DISCIPLINE: New coach Randy Shannon tells his players "nothing good happens after midnight." He banned guns, promising to boot any player found to have one from the team. Players can't move off-campus until they have lived on-campus for two years, maintaining a minimum 2.5 grade-point average during that time. And names have come off the jerseys. 2. SETTING A HIGH GOAL: Shannon talks of winning the national championship, though most pundits discount the Hurricanes' chances. He believes in aiming for the top, despite the odds. 3. RETOOLING THE OFFENSE: Quarterback U. has lost its effectiveness in recent years, but coordinator Patrick Nix has been brought in to refire the arsenal.
