$5-per-plate barbecue helps sports booster

BROOKSVILLE A benefit barbecue for Dick Hessler will begin at noon Friday at Hernando High School, 700 Bell Ave. For a minimum donation of $5, those attending can have a chicken or chopped pork meal. The event will continue until the food runs out. Orders can be called in ahead of time to Gene Bell at 584-1511. Hessler, who has amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig's disease), is a Brooksville resident who has been involved in local softball and baseball programs. Checks should be made payable to the Dick Hessler ALS Support Fund. Call Judy Hensley at 796-1047, Ernie Chatman at 796-2132 or Bell. SPRING HILL POW/MIA event set for Sept. 15 American Legion Post 186 and the Unit 186 Color Guard will perform a POW/MIA ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 15 at the post, 12091 Cortez Blvd. The event will include a dinner. The cost is $6.50. MASH attire is encouraged. Tickets available at the canteen or by calling Betty Lou at 683-9794.
