High Fives
Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point received the 2007 Gold Sustained Performance Award for treatment of coronary artery disease from the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association's Get With The Guidelines program. The hospital also received the 2007 Bronze Performance Award for treatment of both heart failure and stroke. The American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association sponsor this quality improvement program to help hospitals ensure that patients consistently receive care in accordance with the most up-to-date guidelines and recommendations. Hospitals that continually meet or exceed the nationally accepted standards improve their quality patient care by turning guidelines into lifelines.
"We are proud of Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point's efforts for implementing these lifesaving treatments," said Dr. Gregg C. Fonarow, volunteer chairman for the program's national steering committee.
Hospitals are recognized for performance achievement upon meeting specific criteria if at least 85 percent of their cardiac or stroke patients, who do not have other conditions that would interfere with the recommended treatment, are treated and discharged according to the program.

The Pasco Education Foundation Inc. and the District School Board of Pasco County welcomed all the new teachers to Pasco County Schools at a special brunch at the Grand Pavilion at Saddlebrook Resort on Aug. 9. "Welcome to Pasco" was presented by Wachovia and Fischler School of Education & Human Services at Nova Southeastern University. It served as a new teacher orientation and provided an opportunity for educators to speak with members of the business community. Superintendent of Schools Heather Fiorentino welcomed the new teachers. "A journey of 1,000 miles must begin with a single step," Fiorentino told the teachers. "Today you are taking your first step into the exciting world of education in Pasco County." Each year, teachers and administrators benefit from the foundation's classroom grants, which provide them with needed supplies and curriculum support. The foundation also recognizes and celebrates the county's top students and public school non-instructional employees interested in teaching throughout the year. Since its inception in 1991, the foundation has awarded hundreds of scholarships to students and teachers including administering the Take Stock in Children Program, which supports more than 120 children.
