Road construction

1. Interstate 275, north St. Petersburg: Workers will start making fixes in mid September on I-275's concrete surface from south of 62nd Avenue N to north of Gandy Boulevard - a $6.5-million project that will run through next spring. They'll be cutting out slabs that are in bad condition and replacing them. At some point they'll be closing the ramps between Gandy Boulevard and the interstate. That will happen intermittently at night.

2. Interstate 175, downtown St. Petersburg: They're also still working on the concrete on I-175 from I-275 to Fourth Street. Lane closures have shifted from nighttime to daytime because neighboring residents prefer that due to the noise. "It's not something that's creating backups. But if people are traveling in and out of downtown, that's something they'll notice," said John McShaffrey, a spokesman for the Florida Department of Transportation.

3. I-275 in Tampa: This massive, years-long highway widening project started a few weeks ago, with the first phase between Himes Avenue and Ashley Drive. Watch for intermittent closures on major avenues beneath the interstate, such as Himes, MacDill, Armenia, Howard, Rome and Willow.
