Gecko Fest draws 20,000

Families, street vendors and pirates packed the streets of Gulfport's downtown waterfront district Saturday for the seventh annual Gecko Fest. Four blocks of Beach Boulevard were closed to traffic, making way for about 150 vendors, three stages worth of musical acts and a rock climbing wall. The quirky event has been growing in size and popularity by the year. About 20,000 turned out for food, fire breathers and belly dancers, more than double last year's estimates.
