Elementary school

Red Cross seeks volunteers: To ensure the best possible staffing of local school facility hurricane shelters, the Red Cross seeks teams of parents interested in being trained as Red Cross volunteers designated to work in your school should it be used as a shelter. PTA ice cream social: Don't miss the most important meeting of the year. Find out about the PTA's budget and enjoy some ice cream at 6 p.m. Sept. 20 at the PTA general meeting and ice cream social.

St. Jude's fundraiser: Students are collecting money for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital during September. Proceeds benefit cancer research and pay for treatment. Students who bring in $1, $5 or $10 donations will receive a "coloring pepper" and a coupon for a free Chili's Kids Meal. The class that collects the most money will receive a lunch catered by Chili's and a dog tag necklace.

Now accepting applications: Terrace Community Middle School is a public charter school and is taking applications for the 2008-2009 academic year.
