FHP: Bollea got no special breaks
By TAMARA EL-KHOURY, Times Staff Writer
Published September 7, 2007
A Florida Highway Patrol trooper denied giving Nick Bollea special treatment when he was caught speeding outside Miami last year. In the latest issue of Rides magazine, Bollea, 17, brags about driving his silver Dodge Viper from Miami to Tampa and getting pulled over three times for driving more than 100 mph. He said he was let go the first two times because he was recognized as Hulk Hogan's son and ticketed the third time. Lt. Doug Dodson, an FHP spokesman, said Bollea was pulled over on Alligator Alley Sept. 17, 2006, driving west in a 2001 black Mercedes at 100 mph in a 70 mph zone. Bollea told the patrolman he was rushing to a family emergency in Clearwater. He was let go with a stern warning, Dodson said. Nineteen miles later, Bollea was clocked driving 115 mph. He was given a ticket for $305.50. No charges have been filed in connection with Bollea's Aug. 26 crash. Clearwater police spokesman Wayne Shelor said no new information is being released about the ongoing investigation. In an interview that aired this week on Inside Edition, Bollea's father, Hulk Hogan, said he drove up to the scene of the crash while following his son to a restaurant for dinner. "When I saw the wreck, I didn't think anybody was alive," Hogan said. He said his son suffered broken ribs, a broken arm and injuries to his neck and knees. "They were not racing," Hogan said. "Thank God."

All you "conspiracy theorists," so who was the gunman in the grassy knoll and where is Jimmy Hoffa buried. What is the matter with you guys. The FHP, etc is not covering up anything. My Gawd, grow up and get a grip. Ignorant...

I am less concerned with the speeding on the hiways and getting out of tickets. I worry about the small local streets that this kid is speeding on. He could have killed other drivers and bystanders. Tickets alone don't seem to phase him.

All cars carry a black box under the seat. It records speeds. Someone should get that box before it disappears. Then the truth will be known.

Please focus on the issue, a young man was injured and his family needs focus on recovery. Nick Bollea will carry this with him, but so will John and his family.
Let us focus on John and his recovery.
My prayers are with both families at this time

Puh-leeeze. FHP,like everything else in Florida, is crooked. When I was young, dumb & dangerous in MO, I sped, got caught & the officer treated me like his child. With genuine concern,he told me I could've killed someone...to this day,I thank him.

City of Clearwater and FHP has clearly made themselves look like clowns. I hope karma comes around and slaps everyone who has a hand in this coverup. What LIE will they cook up next.....that Shamu was infact the driver of the Supra.

Yes he did get a break. It did not help him in the end. If you give some people enough rope, they will hang themselves.
