Woman charged with murder
Police arrested a woman with a record of prostitution and charged her Saturday with second-degree murder with a firearm.
Gale Sandra Walker is accused of killing Dean Lake, 64, whose decomposed body was found inside his home at 10218 Cliff Circle on Wednesday. His 1987 Chevrolet Monte Carlo was missing.
According to Walker's arrest report, she provided a recorded statement to police admitting she shot Lake one time in the head. The shooting occurred between Aug. 19 and Aug. 23. Walker also helped police recover Lake's car.
She was booked into Orient Road Jail early Saturday morning and is being held without bail. Walker, 47, has a lengthy arrest record in Hillsborough County, including arrests on charges of grand theft of a motor vehicle, carrying a concealed firearm and prostitution.
EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE Helicopter crash in Panhandle injures two
An Air Force officer and an airman were injured when the helicopter they were aboard crashed during a training mission.
The injuries suffered by Col. William Nelson and Airman 1st Class Bradley Jordan in the late Friday crash were described as not life-threatening. Five others on the MH-53 Pave Low helicopter were reported unhurt, according to the military.
The accident happened at about 11:45 p.m. Friday near Duke Field. Nelson and Jordan were transferred to Pensacola hospitals.
No one on the ground was hurt, according to the military. A board of officers will investigate.
