Cathey opens season strong
Calvary Christian's Joe Cathey was ninth overall at the University of Florida Invitational. Cathey finished in 16 minutes, 34 seconds. It was the best finish of any cross country runner from the county at the meet.
Times' Pinellas Super Seven
1. Largo (2-0): The Packers cruised past Palm Harbor University. The only glitch is Largo finally allowed someone to score.
2. Northeast (2-0): The Vikings are relying on the legs of Jeff Brinson. It's a sound strategy so far.
3. Boca Ciega (1-0): A week off helped the Pirates get ready for a tough stretch of district games.
4. Clearwater CC (2-0): The Marauders showed some moxie, rallying from a 14-0 deficit to beat Tampa Catholic.
5. Dunedin (1-1): The Falcons got back on track with a resounding win against Seminole.
6. Gibbs (2-0): The Gladiators are impressive, especially after knocking off Countryside.
7. Clearwater (2-0): The Tornadoes, behind the pinpoint accuracy of quarterback Luke Loucks, have scored a combined 84 points in the first two games.
