We want to be good guys, but ...
Sure, we think our employers should act like good guys. We just don't care that much whether they do. That's the consensus of a survey by Hudson, which measures worker confidence in 11 major metro markets, including Tampa. It shows that 75 percent of U.S. workers think companies have responsibilities to the community, but 70 percent don't consider a company's corporate social responsibility when evaluating job offers. Also, only 20 percent of workers say their employer gives them paid time off to volunteer. But of those, 70 percent take advantage of it.
Learn to balance work and life
It's easy to neglect your personal life to take care of your professional life, and vice versa. An upcoming leadership seminar aims to help women succeed in both. The St. Petersburg-Pinellas chapter of Business and Professional Women will present "Stepping Stones to Personal and Professional Success," a two-day seminar in Clearwater on Saturday and Sept. 16. The keynote speaker will be Renee Warmack, who produced Ten at the Top in Tampa Bay, a documentary about female government leaders in the area. The cost is $60 for BPW members, $75 for nonmembers.
