Freedom Walk on Sept. 11 to benefit troops
The city will host a Freedom Walk on Tuesday in honor of the sixth anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. The walk will begin at 6 p.m. at Veterans Park next to Safety Harbor marina, 110 Veterans Memorial Lane. Participants will walk from the marina to Seventh Street S and back. Admission is free, although the Safety Harbor Teen Advisory Board will be collecting donations of comforting items to send to troops overseas as part of Operation Shoebox. Old cell phones needed for seniors
Senior Citizens Services welcomes donations of old cell phones to be distributed to needy seniors as 911 emergency phones. The offices are open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and phones are distributed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays. Ceremony to mark Sept. 11 anniversary
The public is invited to attend a ceremony marking the sixth anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks at 6 p.m. Tuesday on the steps of City Hall, 112 S Osceola Ave. The event will begin with brief remarks from Mayor Frank Hibbard and then continue at Peace Memorial Presbyterian Church, 110 S Fort Harrison Ave., with remarks and a community concert. The Clearwater City Council has an opening for a Clearwater resident to serve on the city's employee pension investment committee. The appointment is for two years with reappointment possible. The individual will be considered a fiduciary of the pension fund and will be required to attend training and educational conferences.
