Community giving
Wachovia has awarded grants totaling nearly $90,000 to multiple organizations in Pasco County during the first half of 2007. Most of the grants align with Wachovia Foundation's primary focus areas of education and community development, including $10,000 scholarship grants to Pasco-Hernando Community College and Saint Leo University. Wachovia also contributed $10,000 to Consumer Credit Counseling Services in support of the bank's mission to provide financial literacy training in the community. A number of additional grants were also given in the areas of health and human services, and arts and culture.
"At Wachovia, serving our communities is at the core of all we do," said Larry Starnes, Wachovia's area president for Pasco. "As a leader in the financial services industry, we are committed to meeting community needs, particularly in the areas of public education and community development."
Starnes serves on the board of the Pasco-Hernando Community College Foundation and is president of the Pasco Education Foundation.
In 2006, Wachovia contributed nearly $118-million to charitable organizations nationwide through company and foundation giving, and contributed an additional $27-million through employee workplace giving campaigns and personal donations. Wachovia employees also logged more than 710,000 hours of volunteer community service.

Samuelsen Builders has been tapped to bring its residential designs to Trinity East, the $1.5-billion master-planned community in southwest Pasco County. Samuelsen offers seven floor plans and has a large selection of home sites, many overlooking preserve areas, said Dan Aldridge, vice president of Adam Smith Enterprises Inc., Trinity's developer. The builder also can custom-design and build a home to buyers' specifications. Residential pricing is from the $250s, including home site.
Construction also is under way on Samuelsen's 2,540-square-foot Trinity East model, which is expected to open in February. Until then, sales are being conducted from the builder's Valhalla model in the Champions' Club, 1241 Toscano Drive.
Trinity-based Samuelsen Builders was founded nearly 50 years ago by Richard Samuelsen. During the past 15 years, the firm has built homes in 63 Tampa Bay-area communities, including Trinity, where it has built more than 600 homes.

John Heagney Public Relations, 2006 Arcadia Road in Holiday, has been chosen to handle public relations for Michigan-based Pulte Homes' Tampa Bay division. Pulte is the nation's largest builder of active-adult communities for people more than 55 years old. Its DiVosta brand is known in Florida for its Built Solid building system and master-planned communities.
John Heagney Public Relations has been serving its clients worldwide for 25 years.
The agency's current clients include Steinway & Sons, Boston Piano Co. and Fletcher Music Centers.
Its residential building clients include Arthur Rutenberg Homes, Hannah Bartoletta Homes and Taylor Woodrow Inc., among others. It also represents such communities as Champions' Club, Trinity and Wilderness Lake Preserve. Other clients are from fields such as boating, architecture, engineering, high-tech and medicine.
