Red Friday Celebration at lodge to aid troops

LAND O'LAKES
A Red Friday Celebration is planned for 5 p.m. Friday at the Land O'Lakes Moose Lodge, 7623 U.S. 41, just north of the Land O'Lakes High School. Communities around the United States have adopted a tradition of wearing red on this first Friday after Sept. 11 to show support for the troops. The club has designed red T-shirts and is selling them to raise money for sending care packages to the troops. Donations will be collected in barrels and items requested include baby wipes, batteries and non-perishable foods. The Florida Blood Services Blood Mobile will be at the lodge from 4 to 8 p.m. and there will be food, raffles, auctions and karaoke. Call (813) 996-2871.
Land O'Lakes to have old-fashioned social
The Heritage Park Foundation will have an old-fashioned community social at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 27 at the Land O'Lakes Community Center, 5401 Land O'Lakes Blvd. Memorabilia from the early days of the area will be on display. Refreshments will be served. Call Kurt Conover at (727) 861-5141.
Brown-Waite is host of public education forum
A public education forum to discuss the reauthorization of the No Child Left Behind Act is set for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the School Board Meeting Room, District School Board of Pasco County, 7227 Land O'Lakes Blvd., Land O'Lakes. Elections chief to lead discussion at meeting
The Republican Club of Central Pasco has invited Supervisor of Elections Brian Corley to the club's Sept. 19 meeting. Corley will discuss topics such at the election process, voting equipment and changes in Florida's legislation regarding voting and elections. The club meets at Steve's Fountainview Restaurant in the Central Pasco Government Building in Land O'Lakes on Land O'Lakes Boulevard. Join the cleanup crew in Lutz, Land O'Lakes
The ninth-annual Lutz Trash Bash and the Land O'Lakes Coastal Cleanup is set for Saturday from 7 a.m. until noon. Registration will be at the Old Lutz School in Lutz and at the Sun Trust Bank on State Road 54 in Land O'Lakes. The volunteers will receive a free T-shirt at the end of the cleanup, and also will receive free hot dogs, chips, and a drink in Lutz and in Land O'Lakes, Hungry Harry's will provide the lunch and there will be door prizes given away. Wear comfy shoes, gloves, sun block, a hat, sunglasses and bring water. School grounds, waterways, parks and roads are included in the cleanup. Public invited to join club in waving flags
The members of the GFWC Lutz/Land O'Lakes Woman's Club will continue the tradition they started after Sept. 11, 2001, by waving flags from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Tuesday in front of the SunTrust Bank on State Road 54 in Land O'Lakes and again from 4 to 6 p.m. in front of the Old Lutz School on U.S. 41 in Lutz. The public is invited to join the club members. Central Pasco chamber to meet Wednesday
The general membership meeting of the Central Pasco Chamber of Commerce is set for 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 20735 Leonard Road in Lutz. Tennis classes start today at Odessa Park
The Pasco County Parks and Recreation Department offers a tennis program from 4 to 9 p.m. beginning today at Odessa Park, 1627 Chesapeake Drive. Ages 6 to adult are welcome for this six week session. The Pasco County Mosquito Control Board of Commissioners will be holding the monthly meeting today. The meeting will be held at the Odessa office at 3:30 p.m.

Open house Thursday at Moore-Mickens

Knights offer bingo, dinner, dancing, more
The Knights of Columbus Chapter 6476 offers nonsmoking bingo at 11 a.m. each Sunday. Dinner and dances are offered every Wednesday and Friday with dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. and dancing from 7 to 10 p.m. On Sept. 22 from 1 to 5 p.m., the Sergeant Safety Kids ID program will be at the hall. Cost is $20 for the first child in the family and $15 for others. On Sept. 26, after dinner there will be a wine and cheese tasting party at the hall. Portrait artist will discuss techniques
Nelida Dilorenzo will demonstrate and discuss techniques in portrait painting at the 7 p.m. Tuesday meeting of the Zephyrhills Art Club that meets at the Alice Hall Community Center at Zephyr Park on State Road 54 in Zephyrhills. The theme of the monthly mini art show is portraits and members are encouraged to display their original art work. Ribbons are awarded in accomplished and amateur categories.
