Kate Carl is back at Keswick Christian after spending the past two seasons at St. Petersburg Catholic. Carl, a senior point guard, played for the Crusaders as an eighth- and ninth-grader before transferring to SPC. She played a key role for the Barons in their state final run during the 2005-06 season and last season, when the team advanced to the region final.
Her return is a boost for Keswick, which returns four of its five starters. "Kate is a good ball player who will fit well into our system," Crusaders coach Karrmayne King said.
Clearwater Central Catholic coach Mike Jalazo said quarterback Brent Henderson likely will sit out Friday's game against St. Cloud Harmony.
Henderson, a senior, slightly separated his shoulder in the first half of last week's win over Tampa Catholic. The Marauders are making the move as a precautionary measure and want Henderson to be fully recovered when district competition begins in two weeks.
Barons get new soccer coach
Gary Kolb accepted the vacant St. Petersburg Catholic girls soccer coaching job Monday. Kolb, who guided Largo's boys team to a resurgence last season, was an assistant on the Barons' boys team from 1999-2002. Two of his sons, Adam and Tim, played for the Barons.
"The school has always been good to my family and I, so this is a way for me to give back to them a little," Kolb said. "I've always been a Baron at heart."
