BROOKSVILLE
A membership drive for the newly formed Hernando Preservation Foundation will be a part of the Market on Main Street event Saturday in downtown Brooksville.
Several members of the board of directors will be on hand to talk about history and discuss the activities of the foundation at 11:30 a.m. at the Rising Sun Cafe, 10 S Main St.
The foundation's mission is to provide financial support for historical preservation efforts in Hernando County. For 2007-08, activities include support for the clerk of court's historic records digital project, public display for artifacts and support for a comprehensive survey of archaeological sites within the county.
Representatives from the clerk of court's records storage facility will also be at the Rising Sun Cafe Saturday; they will have examples of the historic records scheduled to be digitized. The digitizing of old records will be made available to the public through the county's Web site.
The foundation is seeking individual, business and large corporate donations for both annual and lifetime memberships.
Those interested can stop by the Rising Sun Cafe on Saturday, visit the Web site online at www.hchac.com (select "foundation" from the drop-down menu), call John Tucker at 796-1017 or Roger Landers at 796-5420, or write to the Hernando Preservation Foundation, P.O. Box 1864, Brooksville, FL 34605.
