Jode Eye and Dr. Daniel Mullett are honored as Mr. and Mrs. Countryside 2007 at Old Harbor Bank. Former winners determined that they showed leadership in their many community involvements.
CLEARWATER - Volunteers Dr. Daniel Mullett and Jode Eye have been named Mr. and Mrs. Countryside for 2007 in recognition of their service to the community.
Mullett and Eye were recognized by the Countryside Rotary Club and Old Harbor Bank at a reception Wednesday evening. A committee of former winners and members of the Countryside Rotary Club have bestowed the award annually since 1997.
"We look for people who have demonstrated leadership in our community and made a difference," said Bud Elias, chairman of the Clearwater Chamber of Commerce and Mr. Countryside 2000.
Mullett has practiced dentistry in Clearwater for 23 years and is past president of the Upper Pinellas County Dental Association. He has been active with Boy Scout Troop 135 in Clearwater for nine years. He is council chairman and adult Bible study facilitator at Heritage United Methodist Church.
He grew up in Dunedin, is married with three sons age 1, 20, and 18. A boy from Cameroon, West Africa, has joined the Mullett family for two years.
Mullett said he was humbled at the honor.
"I'm just a representative for all the people who worked so hard with me to help out," he said. "I don't know that I did anything more special than anybody else."
Eye co-founded Clothes to Kids, a nonprofit organization that provides good, free clothing to needy school children in Pinellas County. Begun in 2002, Clothes to Kids has served more than 17,000 children from kindergarten to 12th grade.
Eye grew up in Pinellas County and was an elementary schoolteacher for eight years. She volunteers most of her time at Clothes to Kids, but also helps out at Countryside High School. She is married, with daughters age 21 and 17.
"I feel very honored," Eye said. "If it can spread the word about Clothes to Kids, I'm happy to be the recipient."
