Latingroup's dinner dance deadline today

Tickets must be purchased by today for the Latin American Civic and Cultural Association of Spring Hill's 25th Anniversary Gala Dinner Dance, which will be from 6 to 11 p.m. Sept. 22 at the Palace Grand, 275 Della Court.
Cocktails and hors d'oeuvres will be from 6 to 7 p.m. There will be a buffet dinner and cash bar. A Latin band will entertain.

Free flick Wednesdayat East Branch Library
The Hernando County Public Library will show the movie, Sweet Home Alabama, at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the East Hernando Branch Library, 6457 Windmere Road.
The 2002 film stars Reese Witherspoon and Josh Lucas. It is about New York fashion designer Melanie Carmichael, who suddenly finds herself engaged to the city's most eligible bachelor. But Melanie's past holds many secrets, including Jake, the man she married in high school, who refuses to divorce her. Melanie sneaks back home to Alabama to get her husband to sign the divorce papers, only to discover that you can take the girl out of the South, but you can never take the South out of the girl.
The movie is rated PG-13. There is no cost to attend. Refreshments will be served. For information, call 754-4443.

St. Frances Cabriniselling cookbook
St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church is now selling the new parish cookbook, Pleasures from the Good Earth.
The book includes 500 recipes from parishioners. The cost is $15. Funds raised will be used by the new parish ministry, What Comes Next, which is for adults 18 through 40-something.

Speaker will advise onachieving happiness
The Hernando County Medical Society Alliance will present "Achieving Happiness, Balance and Success in Your Life" at noon Sept. 28 at Silverthorn Country Club, 4550 Golf Club Lane.

40th birthday bash kicks off on Friday
The Spring Hill Community Association's 40th Birthday Celebration of Spring Hill will begin Friday with a Kids Kick-Off Night from 4 to 10 p.m. on the Lake House grounds, 1202 Kenlake Ave.
The event, sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Spring Hill, will include a midway with carnival rides, face painting, the announcement of winners of the essay and art contest with Hernando County Schools, and entertainment by the Suncoast School of the Arts, Tap N' Dolls, Suncoast Steel Band, Just Dance and Rich & Poor Band.
Spring Hill Fire Rescue will have the Smoke House. There will be free raffle prizes for the children, birthday cake donated by Publix, giveaways and a variety of vendors.

The carnival rides and game will continue throughout next weekend from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sept. 22 and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 23 on the Lake House grounds. There will be more than 75 food, crafts and business vendors, as well as community and historical displays. The Spring Hill Idol contest will also run throughout the weekend.
Events on Sept. 22 include the Spring Hill Pie Bake-Off and an air guitar contest, and entertainment provided by the Hernando Harmonizers, Teri Lyon, Hernando County Philippine American Association's choral and dance group, Brian Chytka, the '60s Groove and the Mystics.
Events on Sept. 23 include a nondenominational service provided by Holy Angels Church and the Spring Hill Idol final performances, and entertainment by Carla Becker, Louie Fortunato, Mike & Susan and Rescue 22.
Also, entries are still being accepted for the air guitar contest that will be at 7 p.m. Sept. 22, sponsored by Quality Guitars and True Oldies Radio.
Each contestant will have 60 seconds to perform the best air guitar performance from a list of four songs: Along the Watchtower by Jimi Hendrix, Layla by Eric Clapton/Duane Allman (Derik & the Dominos), Sultans of Swing by Dire Straights and Eruption by Van Halen.
All ages are invited to compete. Contestants must preregister at the Community Association tent by 5 p.m. on Sept. 22.
The winner will get a guitar valued up to $300 from Quality Guitars.

Rotarians to holdopen house Sept. 27
The Rotary Club of Spring Hill Central will host an open house from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sept. 27 at Johnny Carino's Italian Restaurant, 12070 Cortez Blvd.
There will be a social hour followed by a brief program and introduction of new members.

Craft, flea marketunder way Sept. 22
Regency Oaks will host its annual Flea and Craft Market from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 22 at the clubhouse, 4445 Breakwater Blvd.
Indoor tables are $15 for members, $20 for nonmembers; outdoor spaces (bring your own table) are $15 for both members and nonmembers. Craft and flea market vendors, art dealers and antique dealers invited.

Dyslexia support groupwill meet on Tuesdays
The Dyslexia and Related Learning Differences Support Group has recently formed.
Meetings are from 7 to 8 p.m. the first Tuesday of each month at the Arc Nature Coast's Community Cafe, 4560 Commercial Way.
The group is for parents of children that have, or are suspected of having, dyslexia or related learning differences. Teaching strategies, legal issues, sharing of resources and school-related issues are discussed. Guest speakers on related topics will also be available.
Children are welcome; a large craft-style room is available for them during the meeting.

Bowling for Cure will be at Spring Hill Lanes
A Bowling for the Cure fundraiser will be at 1 p.m. Sept. 23 at Spring Hill Lanes, 3447 Commercial Way.
The cost is $15, which includes three games of bowling and shoe rental. Door prizes will be awarded. Also, free games can be won by those who make the colored head pin strikes.
Funds raised will benefit the 2007 Tampa Bay Breast Cancer 3-Day, which raises funds for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure for breast cancer research, education, screening and treatment programs, and the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund.
