CLEARWATER - Bring your appetite and discerning palate to the 18th annual Taste of Clearwater tonight for samples from more than 50 local restaurants, as well as complimentary beer, wine and soda.

"It's the chamber's largest event every year," said chamber events vice president Kenn Brown. "Last year, over 2,700 attended, and that was during a downpour. We expect even more this year."

No wonder, considering the dizzying array of culinary delights, including desserts.

And organizers say Taste of Clearwater is different from other similar events.

"Unlike other taste events, everything is inclusive in the ticket price," which is $18 in advance or $20 at the door, Brown said. "The food, wine from two wineries, and beer and soda."

The event also features raffle prizes, a cash bar and music from smooth jazz radio station WSJT-FM 94.1.

Brown attributes much of this year's success to city special events manager Terry Schmidt, who chairs the Taste committee.

"He's made all the difference with his leadership and resourcefulness," Brown said. "He knows how to get things done."

If you go

Taste, then taste more

Taste of Clearwater, with food from more than 50 local restaurants, is scheduled for 5 to 8 p.m. tonight at the Harborview Center, 300 Cleveland St., Clearwater. Tickets can be purchased for $18 each until noon from the Clearwater Regional Chamber of Commerce, 1130 Cleveland St., (727) 461-0011, or at www.ticketmaster.com. They'll be $20 at the door.
