JUPITER - Florida's Turnpike and Interstate 95 in Palm Beach and Martin counties were closed Monday while authorities pursued an armed man who ran into the wood nearby. The highways were closed for several hours during the standoff. The Florida Highway Patrol said 50-year-old Gary Lee Crites surrendered after talking with authorities by phone. It was not clear Monday evening what charges he may face. The man's car appeared to be disabled near the counties' boundary. An environmental protection officer approached him to help, but the man took off into the woods between the two highways. It was unclear why Crites ran, officials said.
