A workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 29 at Grace Lutheran Church, 4301 16th St. N. PETERSBURG Training prepares tutors teaching adults to read The Literacy Council of St. Petersburg will hold its next Tutor Training Workshop Sept. 28 from 6:45 to 9:30 p.m., and Sept. 29 from 8:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Verizon headquarters, 821 First Ave. N. The 10-hour workshop is designed to train volunteers in the methods and complexities of teaching an adult to read. Prior teaching experience is not required. One must be 18 years of age or older. COUNTYWIDE Water treatment pitch could be a hoax Pinellas County officials say they have received complaints that at least one local water treatment company claims to represent the county to gain entrance to homes and inspect faucets or hot water heaters in an effort to sell water treatment systems. The companies are not endorsed by or affiliated with any government agency, and county utility employees would never try to sell an "upgrade" to a home's plumbing.
