- Gulf High choral group Total Sounds will host a fundraising carwash from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the 7-Elevenon U.S. 19 and Moog Road. - The Pasco County Compassionate Friends, a support group for those grieving the death of a child, will meet at 7:30 p.m. today at Community Hospital, Conference Room C, 5637 Marine Parkway, New Port Richey. For information, call (813) 273-8721.
- Friday is the deadline to register for the ACT administered on Oct. 27. Cost is $30 for the traditional ACT and $44.50 for the ACT plus Writing. To register, go to www.actstudent.org.

- The Florida Department of Education Florida Hispanic Heritage Month Essay Contest: For students in grades K-12. One winner will be selected from elementary, middle and high school categories. Winners receive a full four-year college tuition scholarship to a Florida school and a computer. Essays should answer the question, "In what way will you impact the future of the Hispanic community in Florida and why?" To apply, go to www.fldoe.org.
- Florida Hispanic Heritage Month Excellence in Education Award: Students, parents, teachers and administrators are welcome to nominate a Hispanic full-time teacher for this award.
