Josh Korr on Halo 3: It's just a whole lot of hype

Boy, Josh has got it bad. I can't think of anything that would make me think of dropping three grand on A/V goodness. (No wait: If Square One ever came out on DVD, I'd pay that much to watch Mathnet in full, high-def glory.)

But come on. Almost a year later, Gears of War is still the best-looking game ever made, and BioShock has just upped the ante big-time for story, atmosphere and ambition. What are the chances Halo 3 will leapfrog both of those, plus what promises to be a ridiculously good-looking Call of Duty 4 and the more-ambitious-than-BioShock Mass Effect?

The Halo craziness has as much to do with timing and hype as it does with Master Chief. What might have been a genuinely innovative or just super-polished shooter in 2002 is now one of a dozen top-shelf games. And as derivative as movie sequels are of the original, video game sequels are usually even more repetitive.

The sight of gamers lined up at midnight and the prospect of opening-day grosses that dwarf Spider-Man might be good fodder for media coverage ("Wouldja look at these crazy kids -- boy, they sure are crazy for lining up for a silly game!"). But there are plenty of other, better reasons to "accidentally" spend that insurance money on an Xbox 360.

If you guess the Superbowl winner in the preseason, you are a genius. However, if your guess is wrong, then you are just another worthless opinion in a sea of worthless opinions. A journalist writing against Halo 3's success is carreer suicide.

I wonder how much of an idiot you will feel like in a few weeks when halo 3 has broken every record. Bioshock will be forgotten before Christmas. And who still plays Gears of War? Halo 3 will be played for years to come dummy.

It appears that you know very little about halo 3. Four player co-op, Forge, saved films, are just a few of the reasons that hype is at an all time high.

Heretic! Kidding. I think there's a strong chance Halo might not live up to the hype. But I'm counting on Bungie to give me the great stories I've loved since Marathon and Myth.

Graphics is not the best important thing on videogames, and Bioshock is so bad it makes me cry. It's impossible to aim in less than a second! Halo will live up to the hype, it will be the best game of this generation. And true fans know it.

A large community of gamers&analysts would disagree with your outlook.Yes there are many upcoming games which promise to be amazing;Halo is the flagship piece of software for Xbox owners everywhere, the game which made xbox a real industry contender.

Do you get paid to write this? Anyone could have come up with this article. As a matter of fact, thousands of people already have with alot more insight. You haven't backed up a single thought, looks more like a dumb blog post than worthy journalism.
