DUNEDIN - Usually, when Countryside and Dunedin get together, the games are so close the only thing left is the skin under one's nails. After all, the past five games in the series have been decided by a combined eight points.
This time, there were no close calls.
Adaris Bellamy made sure of it.
Bellamy, the Falcons' electrifying back, ran for 278 yards and scored three times in a 39-21 victory Thursday.
His performance was extra sweet considering he missed last year's game with a sprained MCL.
"It's always a big game against Countryside," Bellamy said. "I was really motivated for this one."
With his quick burst, exceptional vision, unearthly cutback ability and aptitude for juking and shredding tacklers, Bellamy ran circles around Cougar defenders. On his second carry, Bellamy showed off his speed, racing 73 yards for a score that put the Falcons 3-1 ahead 13-0 after a failed kick.
Bellamy added another touchdown on a 2-yard run to make it 20-0.
From there, the game was back and forth. But it was too late for Countryside (2-2).
"We're young and we're going to make some mistakes," Cougars coach John Davis said. "We just gave up too many plays."
Most came from Bellamy, who had three runs 29 yards or longer.
"This is the best I've seen Adaris run," Dunedin coach Mark Everett said. "This game was a highlight by itself."
