TAMPA - After a 30-minute delay because of lightning, Durant wasted no time in defeating King (1-3). Facing fourth and inches on its 29, Durant brought its offense back onto the field. Quarterback Jeremy Fussell gained 4 yards. "The big thing that I realized with this team is we've got to maintain possession of the football," Cougars coach Mike Gottham said. "When we have opportunities to hang onto the ball, we're going to hang on. If you can't (convert on fourth and short), then we don't need to be playing." Eleven plays later, Durant (2-2) capped the drive when Fussell ran for a 9-yard score. The Cougars never surrendered the early lead. King played without coach Earl Garcia III, who was suspended for five games after an altercation with officials during last week's loss to Bloomingdale.
