Ephesus, Turkey, June 2007 In the land of St. Paul My fiance, Bob Reader, and I went on a three-week tour of Italy, Greece and the Aegean islands. On part of the cruise, we stopped at Kusadasi, a port in Turkey, then took a 45-minute bus ride to the ancient ruins of Ephesus, where St. Paul lived and wrote. It is amazing how huge this place is, about the same size as Pompeii, which we also saw. I wanted to go there because I am interested in biblical history. I expected it to be a few rocks and a couple of buildings, and I was amazed at the size of the amphitheater and library, huge rock structures, several stories high. Plays were staged there. I can't believe how advanced the civilization was that many hundreds of years ago. The food in Turkey was interesting, too. We tried pickled octopus. What does pickled octopus taste like? Like leftover bubble gum. I won't do that again. Linda Sullivan of Clearwater as told to Fred. W. Wright
