Flag football: Playing without their starting quarterback Roy Selway, the Coldwell Banker flag football team stayed undefeated in Hernando County League play with a 21-19 overtime win against Spartans on Sept. 14. John Brockman, typically a receiver, filled in at quarterback for Coldwell and continually ran reverses with running back Tim Selway. Newcomer Chris Silverman, who also recorded two sacks and batted down two balls, notched the game-winning point after catching a pass from Selway for the two-point conversion.
After Sept. 14, Coldwell was 2-0. The Spartans, Hooters and R-Beach sat tied for second with 2-1 records. James Jones Attorney and Corrective Chiropractor are 1-1. The Ravens are 1-2, while Joni Industries - 300 and Challenger Irrigation both sit at the bottom at 0-2.
Volleyball: After matches on Sept. 15, CCW was the clear leader among all Hernando County league volleyball teams with a 13-2 record. The Challenged follows with a 7-2 record. Semper Fi is 8-4; the Misfits are 1-14; the Jayhawks are 1-11 and the Islanderz are 6-3.
Senior softball: As of Sept. 18, C's Pub led the West Hernando Athletic Club for Seniors softball league with a 3-1 record. The Elks were 3-2; Good Shepherd was 2-1; Suncoast Orthopedics was 2-3. American Legion was 1-2 and Moose was 1-3.
5-mile run: The Rattlesnake Run, a 5-mile trek through Pasco County, will be Oct. 20. The race will start at 8 a.m. in San Antonio.
The race is in its 29th year and is the second oldest in the Tampa Bay area. The 41st Rattlesnake Festival will be after the races.
There also will be 1-mile events - a fun run, a team fun run where an adult and child run together, and a runner-dog team run where owners and leashed dogs run together.
Cost is $15 for the 5-mile and $13 for the 1-mile if you register by Oct. 16. The 1-mile team event is $20 and the dog race is $15. Triathlon: The Longleaf Triathlon International and Sprint distance will be Oct. 21 in New Port Richey. A children's triathlon will be Oct. 20. Register by going to active.com. The cost is $65 for sprint distance, $90 for the international individual distance, $120 for the international relay team and $30 for the youth triathlon. Freewheelers: The Tampa Bay Freewheelers bicycle club will have its Hilly Hundred on Oct. 21, starting at Pasco-Hernando Community College in Dade City. There will be rides of 18, 34, 63 and 100 miles. Registration is at 6:30 a.m. and there will be a 7:30 mass start. Cost is $22. Visit active.com to register by Oct. 7.
