Was robber pregnant or disguised?

PINELLAS PARK - Police have a burning question about a woman who committed three robberies: Was she pregnant, pretending to be pregnant, fat, or simply wearing bulky clothes?

They have a suspect who is neither pregnant nor fat, so they're leaning toward pregnancy as a disguise, or an unintentional side effect of a disguise.

The saga of the supposedly pregnant perpetrator began a couple of weeks ago, said Capt. Sandy Forseth, Pinellas Park police spokesman, when a woman robbed an individual at a CVS store at 7101 Park Blvd. Apparently unsatisfied, she then went to a nearby Washington Mutual bank at 7263 Park Blvd. and attempted to rob it.

"The teller didn't give her anything, so I think she went across the street to Achieva (at 7105 Park Blvd.)," Forseth said. She apparently had better luck at the credit union.

Armed with a video of the woman, who appeared to be pregnant, police tracked down a suspect. "She's not pregnant," Forseth said. "It may have been part of the disguise."

The suspect is cooperating with police, he said, so officers stuck a picture of her in a stack of photographs to see if anyone recognized her. Police expected her to be identified and arrested Monday, but the photo recognition did not go well, Forseth said. Now they're waiting for other evidence, including DNA, to be processed to make sure their suspect is the robber.
