Ninth-graders A.J. Newell and Michelle Butler each broke 40 as Northside Christian defeated Academy of the Holy Names 159-224 Tuesday at Bardmoor.
"We won by a wide margin, but one of the great things about golf is that you play the course so you're really just competing against your score," Mustangs coach D.J. Jackson said.
Newell carded two bogeys and birdie en route to 37, while Butler finished at 39. The Mustangs next play Tampa Prep on Thursday at Bellaire.
Bradenton St. Stephens 172,
Indian Rocks Christian 174
The Eagles came up a little short at the Belleview Biltmore, dropping to 6-5. Ryan Ashburn's 1-over par 36 was good for second place on the day while teammate Emily Boyer finished at 41. IRC next plays in the Mustang Invitational on Monday.
