The governor and the Playboy model: An item?
In May, our sister publication, tbt*, reported that Gov. Charlie Crist had dated Kelly Crosby Heyniger, a Palm Beach County mother of two and former beauty queen who was vying to become "America's Hottest Mom." On Friday, Crist showed up at Yom Kippur service in Miami with another beauty on his arm, WFOR-Ch. 4 TV reporter and former Playboy model Jennifer Santiago. "It's not clear the extent of the relationship," says the Miami Herald's Naked Politics blog, "but Santiago has boasted on her Web site that the single governor granted her his first 'exclusive interview in the mansion' in February." Santiago is a 1997 graduate of Villanova University law school. When she posed for Playboy, she used the name Jennifer Klarman.
Sign of Bulls' success: scalping safeguards
Notice anyone wearing a green USF Student wristband lately? It's not a fashion trend. The University of South Florida is requiring students to don the bracelets when they pick up their complimentary ticket to the Bulls game vs. West Virginia this Friday night. The athletics and ticketing departments decided to make students wear the wristbands throughout the week to prevent the free student tickets from being sold. The wristband practice started before last week's game against North Carolina, the first game where the demand was expected to exceed the 12,500-ticket supply. Officials are working on a computerized system, but it's possible the bracelet practice could continue throughout the season.
Correction
The national Light the Night Walk in Tampa will be held at Legends Field at 6 p.m. Saturday, with music and food preceding the walk. A brief item on 1B Monday was incorrect on this point. The Pinellas event starts at 6 p.m. Friday at Carillon Park.
School fighting, drunken dancing
Want to go to the homecoming dance? If you go to the Benjamin School in Palm Beach Gardens, you'll be asked for more than your ID at the door. Officials at the private school will now require students to take a Breathalyzer test before entering the party, the Palm Beach Post reported. The effort is meant to curb student drinking, which had become an increasing problem during the last few years. Students also will be tested at a winter dance and prom.
