Retired law officers to host golf tourney

SPRING HILL
Friday is the deadline to register for a golf tournament Oct. 19 at Seven Hills Golfers Club, sponsored by the National Association of Retired Law Enforcement Officers, Chapter II.
This will be a four-person scramble. A shotgun start will be at 8:30 a.m. The golf course is at 10599 Fairchild Road, off Mariner Boulevard.
The cost is $45 per golfer, which includes golfing, food and beer. Prizes will be awarded. A hole-in-one will win a new car or one of three vacation packages.
Hole sponsorships are available for $25. Donations of door prizes are also appreciated.

Cats, kittens available for adoption Saturday
Home at Last Pet Adoptions will have cats and kittens available for adoption from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Oct. 6 at Petco, 7223 Coastal Blvd., off Courtez Boulevard.
There is a wide variety of cats available, including Siamese-mix kittens and adults, declawed domestic adults, tabbies and tuxies and kittens of nearly all varieties. View pets online at www.halpetadoptions.petfinder.com.
All pets have been spayed or neutered, have age-appropriate vaccinations, have tested negative for feline leukemia and AIDS, have an identity microchip and have been treated for parasites.

Craft and flea market date moved to Oct. 27
The date of the craft and flea market to benefit All Children's Hospital has been changed. The event will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 27 at Sam's Club, 13360 Cortez Blvd.

Veterans to discuss Memorial Park
The Veterans Round Table will conduct a special meeting at 7 p.m. Monday at American Legion Post 186, 12091 Cortez Blvd.

Deadline Friday forElk Lodge's big event
Friday is the deadline to make reservations for the Brooksville Elks Lodge's 29th Anniversary Ball, which will be Oct. 6 at the lodge, 14494 Cortez Blvd.
Cocktail hour will be 5 to 6 p.m., with dinner served at 6 p.m. The menu will include shrimp cocktail appetizer, salad, rolls and a choice of stuffed pork chops or Mickey's chicken. The meal also includes twice baked potatoes, fresh green beans and an ice cream sundae for dessert.
The Southern Exposure dance band will entertain from 6 to 10 p.m.
This is a semiformal event; jackets are required. Tickets are $12 each. Call Everett Patterson at 796-8022.
Freedom Fund dinner to take place Oct. 13
The Hernando County branch of the NAACP will host the 2007 Freedom Fund Banquet fundraiser at 6 p.m. Oct. 13 at Brooksville Elks Lodge 2582, 14494 Cortez Blvd.
A soul food dinner will be catered by Just Ribs. Entertainment will be provided by Class Act - Richie G. and Stan Prinston.
The speaker will be attorney Darryl Ervin Rouson, who is the immediate past president of the NAACP's St. Petersburg Branch.

Two meetings to focus on water restoration
The Citrus/Hernando Waterways Restoration Council and the Hernando County Task Force will both meet on Monday at the Southwest Florida Water Management District, 2379 Broad St., south of Brooksville.
The Citrus/Hernando Waterways Restoration Council meeting will be at 2:45 p.m. The Hernando County Task Force meeting will follow at 3:30 p.m. The public is invited to share ideas concerning potential water resources restoration projects.
The Hernando County Task Force is part of the Citrus/Hernando Waterways Restoration Council, which is responsible for reviewing data related to lake and river restoration techniques, sport-fish population recovery, and sand and sediment control.
