  • For their own good
Fifty years ago, they were screwed-up kids sent to the Florida School for Boys to be straightened out. But now they are screwed-up men, scarred by the whippings they endured. Read the story and see a video and portrait gallery.

Game of the week

Hillsborough (Terriers) at Riverview (Sharks)

When: 7:30 tonight.

Where: Shark Field, 11311 Boyette Road, Riverview.

What for: The grind-it-out Terriers are sitting pretty at 4-0, ranked No. 3 in the St. Petersburg Times' Tampa Bay Top 50 poll. Led by running back Iziah Wyche (116 yards and a touchdown against rival Middleton last week), the Terriers can go on the ground.

But Riverview (1-2, ranked 14th in the Times' power poll) can run, too. Just watch Jahleel Addae.

Even after falling behind 29-0 to Plant in the first half on Friday, Addae rushed for 133 yards and two second-half scores.

This one will largely depend on what the backs can do.

What fare: Dogwater Cafe, 9409 U.S. 301 S.

If you're rooting for Riverview, eat some dog before the game. Try the Huckleberry Hound (burger with blue cheese and bacon), the Black Lab (blackened burger with barbecue sauce and American cheese) or the Wiener Dog (we'll let you guess what that one is). Too bad they don't have any Terrier Tenderloin. Or Terrier Tater Tots. Or ... you get it.

What to wear: Body paint and sweatpants. Weatherunderground.com predicts a kickoff high of 80 and a low of 68, with a 20 percent chance of isolated thunderstorms and rain.

Last year: Didn't play.

Mascot matchup: Sharks in water. Terriers on dry ground.
