Pinellas County has dropped the idea of buying the Tarpon Woods golf course and building ponds there to alleviate chronic flooding in the area.

The county is no longer pursuing a $4-million grant for that purpose, either.

County officials killed the idea after a study by Tampa Bay Engineering of Clearwater concluded that storing stormwater on the golf course would not ease seasonal flooding in Tarpon Woods.

Pinellas officials requested the state grant in May. The plan was to buy the 150-acre golf course and use some or all of it for stormwater storage. But residents were skeptical of the plan and worried that losing the golf course would drag down property values.

Wrestler died from accidental overdose

Former professional wrestler Brian "Crush" Adams died of accidental abuse of prescription drugs, a deadly mixture of a pain reliever, muscle relaxer and anxiety medication, according to a preliminary autopsy report.

Adams, 44, was found unresponsive Aug. 13 by his 8-year-old son in the family's New Tampa home, according to the autopsy report released Friday by the Hillsborough Medical Examiner's Office. Irene Adams had told investigators her husband had a history of prescription drug abuse and had recently tried to stop.

Power is restored at mobile home park

After a week without power, residents from Southern Comfort mobile home park can restock their fridges, turn on the air-conditioning and flip on the lights.

On Thursday night, power was restored to 10 of the 12 affected mobile homes after a county inspector approved the work done on the park's underground lines.

The work was completed Friday, and the remaining two homes were powered by lunchtime.

Forget the storm water retention plan the county should buy the golf course for the kids soccer and football fields that the area needs. It should be a large enough area to put enough fields to solve the whole areas problem
