New look, new schedule and a community focus

Sunday and Wednesday. Please remember the Largo Times switches next week to a Sunday and Wednesday publication cycle. It no longer will be in the Times on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays or Saturdays. You will see much new content in the revamped Largo Times. We are expanding thecommunity report, as many of you asked us to do. And we cooked up some fresh presentations we are proud to unveil. We're excited about this change. We think that by concentrating our Largo reporting in news sections appearing twice weekly and also adding an improved layer of community-level coverage, we will better serve Largo. And it's not just the content that's changing. We also are changing the Largo Times to a tabloid because "tabs," as we call them, tend to sit more easily on coffee tables for a few days. You also will see more visuals. And while we will have lots for you to read, we won't tie you up with longish stories when we don't need to. We are building the Largo Times to be respectful of your time. Each day this week, I introduced you to one or two of the new ideas we will debut Sunday and then on Wednesday. Today, I'll introduce you to the editor who will guide the Largo Times into its new era. Carrie Weimar is in charge. She and her staff are intent on making strong and sustained connections to Largo. Carrie is from the Midwest - from Omaha. She graduated from Colgate University, then began her newspaper career as a reporter for the Times-Dispatch in Richmond, Va., where she worked five years. She came to the Times in 2001, starting as a local news reporter in Citrus County. She advanced though our ranks to cover St. Petersburg for two years, then federal courts in Tampa, the FBI and homeland security issues. We promoted her to assignment editor this summer. Her first column to you folks in Largo is on Page 2 of Sunday's Largo Times. She will be accessible, eager to hear from you, eager to speak to your organizations, eager to help you get your message out. Her contact information will appear with her column, as will phone numbers and e-mail addresses for all Largo Times staffers. Please stay in touch. - Joe Childs, Largo Times managing editor
