Founders day finishes with folk flair

NEW PORT RICHEY Greater New Port Richey Main Street's Founders Day Celebration winds up today in Sims Park and around Orange Lake, both north of Main Street in downtown. Hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. A highlight is folk singer Susan Boyer Haley from 10 a.m. to noon. Haley sings and plays guitar, mountain dulcimer and psaltery. Her husband, Bill, accompanies her on banjo and mandolin. The couple's music draws on the traditional music of England, Ireland, Scotland and Appalachia. Ms. Haley is a fourth generation musician. Today's activities include Miss Daisy boat rides ($5) and Makai kayak and canoe rentals ($10-$15 an hour) at the Cotee River dock in Sims Park; carnival rides adjacent to Sims Park; a NASCAR race car simulator, as well as arts, crafts, food vendors and kids activities.
