Leepa-Rattner to offer docent training course

The Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art will offer a docent training course on Fridays from Oct. 5 through Nov. 9. The course will be from 9 a.m. to noon in the Fine Arts auditorium on the Tarpon Springs campus of St. Petersburg College. St. Petersburg College art history instructor Michaela Oberlaender will teach the course, which focuses on 20th century art from Impressionism through Post-modernism.

Prospective docents will receive additional training from the museum's staff after Oberlaender's course.

Free homecoming dresses available

Susan Schwartz, the unofficial fairy godmother for the Belle of the Ball Project, is providing free homecoming dresses - new and barely worn - to high school girls in need. The giveaway will be held Saturday and Oct. 6 and Oct. 13 at Seminole Mall, 11201 Park Blvd. N , next to Bealls department store. Jewish Day Schoolart auction is Sunday

The Pinellas County Jewish Day School will hold a "Hidden Treasures" art auction from 9 p.m. to midnight Oct. 6 and will have a rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 7 at the Meridian Concourse Center at 4400 140th Ave. across the street from the St. Petersburg/Clearwater International Airport in Clearwater.

The auction will include professional work from local artists as well as donated work, with prices beginning at $5. Admission to the event is $18 in advance and $20 at the door. Wine, beer, cocktails, assorted soft drinks, and light appetizers will be provided. This is an adult's only event.

The rummage sale will include a variety of items priced 50 cents, with many items in the $1 to $5 range. Proceeds benefit the scholarship fund of the Pinellas County Jewish Day School. Organizers are seeking donations at this time, especially artwork, as well as toys, books, hats, belts, purses, jewelry, electronics, sports equipment, CD's and videos, shoes, luggage, furniture, houseware items, musical instruments and outerwear.
