Sickles' streak halted at 12 matches

The Sickles volleyball team, riding an emotional high of a 12-match winning streak and No. 9 ranking in Class 6A, saw its string snapped Tuesday night in a 3-1 loss to district rival Mitchell.
The final: 25-23, 25-23, 19-25, 25-20.
The Gryphons (17-4, 5-3) lost the first two games by two points apiece, but Sickles coach Rob Brashear said there were some critical calls that went against them that turned the tide.
"We came out flat," Brashear said. "It's frustrating because I know my team can play a lot better than they did tonight. We had a good run that ended tonight. Hopefully we can start another run before playoffs."
Brandon d. King
25-15, 25-8, 26-24
Brandon's comfortable win not only improved the Eagles to 11-2, but allowed coach Amy Watson to reach a milestone: her 100th career victory.
Watson, who spent two seasons at Wharton and the past six at Brandon, is 100-42 as a head coach.
Sophomore outside hitter Aly Woodlee (nine kills, seven aces) and freshman setter Lindsey Watson (18 assists, eight aces), the coach's daughter, led the Eagles.
"The special thing about it is that my husband is the assistant coach and my daughter is on the team," Watson said. "To be able to share it with them and the great group of girls I have is what makes it the most important to me."
BOYS GOLF
King 160, East Bay 189
At Apollo Beach, Lions senior Chris Biuso shot 2-under-par 34 to lead King.
And his round could have been better.
Biuso lipped out one birdie putt and just missed an 8-footer on the final hole.
"He just struck the ball perfect," Lions coach Barrett Zebos said. "He really hit the ball today."
The score was Biuso's second best this season. He fired 31 in an earlier match.
King junior Steven Romeo added a round of 41.
The Lions are 6-3.
East Bay (3-7) was led by sophomore Jared Bramble, who shot 43.
GIRLS GOLF
IRC 194, Tampa Prep 212
IRC's Ryan Ashburn, coming off a low medalist performance Monday at the Green Devil Invitational, shot 36 at Westchase to pace the field.
