You're at the mall, so why not buy a house?

A tent sale for new homes may be a first.

In a miserable housing market where builders have offered everything from cars to college tuition as sales incentives, here's a new one: a tent sale, along the lines of what auto dealers do when they put up a big tent in a vacant lot to sell off dozens of cars quickly.

That's what Morrison Homes and Taylor Woodrow will try Saturday and Sunday at the Brandon Town Center mall in a sales promotion that organizers say may be an industry first.

Under a 25-foot banner outside the mall - an actual tent is still under negotiation - the builders will showcase photos and information about unsold homes in various price ranges and stages of completion in 15 communities in Hillsborough and Pasco. There are 26 homes from Taylor Woodrow and 84 from Morrison.

The attractions: deeply discounted pricing - from the $120,000s to more than $1-million - and below-market financing. Those incentives are available now; details are at www.yourpriceisrightevent.com.

Morrison Homes marketing manager Kristina Lloyd said it's one way to get the homes in front of people who wouldn't drive out to a model center but who do spend their Saturdays at the mall.

Those who don't sign a contract right away can take their chances the following week, Lloyd said. They can "name their own price," she said, starting Oct. 12, by making offers that at least match the builder's minimum.

"But if you wait, the homes might have sold or you might pay more and the financing program might not be available," Lloyd said. Those who go this route will learn after 2 p.m. Oct. 14 whether they've bought a home.

An industry first? Have you ever heard of the Mall House... FYI, it ain't in a tent.. it's INSIDE the cool air-conditioned mall and does the exact same thing. How about a little research next time.

And while you're at it: don't forget to quote the TAXES especially for the non-homesteaders.
