2 separate head-ons kill 1, injure 15 others

PLANT CITY - One person died and 15 others were injured in eastern Hillsborough following two separate head-on crashes Friday night.

At Knights Griffin Road and Pless Road, east of McIntosh Road, two vehicles collided shortly before 6:30 p.m. leaving one person dead. Two people were taken to Tampa General Hospital and one to Lakeland Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.

Another four were treated for minor injuries, Hillsborough Fire Rescue spokesman Ray Yeakley said.

About an hour and a half later, just before 8 p.m., a van crashed with another vehicle at Turkey Creek Road and Whitehead Road.

Yeakley reported one child was taken to a hospital with traumatic injuries. Six other children under age 18 and an adult were treated for minor injuries.

Hillsborough Sheriff's spokesman J.D. Callaway said he did not immediately have any details about what caused the accidents or about the people involved.
