FSU scouting report
By BRIAN LANDMAN, Times Staff Writer

N.C. State (1-4, 0-2 ACC) at FSU (3-1, 0-1), 3:30 The Seminoles have won three in a row but lost consecutive games to the Wolfpack. N.C. State is down under first-year coach Tom O'Brien, who left Boston College to replace Chuck Amato (now back at FSU). It has been plagued by turnovers (18) and injuries, (including starting quarterback Harrison Beck of Countryside High, out with a shoulder injury). The Wolfpack's lone win is against I-AA Wofford, and it has allowed at least 206 rushing yards in every game. That could bode well for Antone Smith, who seeks a breakout game. While FSU'sdefense has flirted with shutouts in its past two games, coach Bobby Bowden is plenty wary. Wolfpack quarterback Daniel Evans had a solid showing (13-of-22 for 190 yards, three touchdowns, no interceptions) in last season's 24-20 come-from-behind win against FSU. Said FSU senior linebakcer LeRue Rumph (Clearwater Central Catholic): "We know what it takes to beat them, and we're at a point in our schedule where we need a win real bad. We need to get over this hump."
