TAMPA - Jefferson (2-3) bounced back from a rough first half of the season, opening district play with a win over Leto (2-4). The Dragons' offense got off to a fast start behind senior quarterback Zack Grossi, who capped a 12-play, 80-yard opening drive with a 40-yard touchdown pass to Darrell Young. Jefferson's defense then forced a three and out, and the Dragons were back on the board six plays later after Grossi hit junior wideout Anthony Williams with a 14-yard touchdown pass to open the second quarter. Grossi finished the game completing 9 of 18 passes for 137 yards and three touchdowns. "The real season started tonight. This was a huge win for us," Jefferson coach Mike Fenton said. Leto was able to get on the board after recovering a Jefferson punt on the Dragons' 24-yard line. Leto's Fred Timmons scored six plays later on a 9-yard run.
