NEW PORT RICHEY - After just a few carries in the first quarter, Ridgewood running back Byronell Arline became Pasco County's all-time rushing leader.
Arline passed former Land O'Lakes running back Godfrey Pestana (4,057 yards) in a 49-14 win Friday night at James Valentine Stadium.
Arline had touchdown runs of 5, 3, 34, 33 and 6 yards before being taken out for most of the fourth quarter.
"This record has to go to everyone who has helped me out over these years, from the offensive line to my coaches. Everyone helped me out to achieve this record," Arline said.
River Ridge (1-4, 0-2) held strong throughout the first half, staying in the game by passing effectively for numerous first downs.
But Ridgewood (5-0, 2-0) buckled down in the second half and shut the River Ridge offense down for no points and intercepted quarterback Blake Spinks twice.
During the fourth quarter, Ridgewood leaned on sophomore running back Adrian Golden, who rushed for 92 yards on eight carries and scored two touchdowns.
Both teams could not hold on to the football throughout the game: They combined for eight fumbles in muddy conditions.
Ridgewood quarterback T.J. Haab chipped in, completing 5 of 7 passes for 133 yards.
