USF scouting report
By GREG AUMAN, Times Staff Writer
Published October 6, 2007
No. 6 USF (4-0) at Florida Atlantic (3-2), 3:30 Both teams are among the nation's best in turnover margin. The Owls are No. 2 at plus-12, the Bulls tied for fifth at plus-8. FAU has a solid quarterback in sophomore Rusty Smith, who has 1,289 yards, nine touchdowns and only two interceptions. But he's not a threat to run. If there's one player for USF quarterback Matt Grothe to keep an eye on, it's cornerback Tavious Polo, whose seven interceptions are three more than the anyone else in the nation. The good news for Grothe? FAU ranks 108th among 120 I-A teams in pass defense, giving up 279 yards per game. USF end George Selvie, leading the nation with 91/2 sacks and 161/2 tackles for loss in four games, needs one sack to set a school record.
