Kids have new pastor at first baptist church

Denise Shelton is the new pastor to children, birth through fifth grade, at First Baptist Church of St. Petersburg.

Shelton and her husband, Richard, moved to St. Petersburg from Shreveport, La. She began her new job in September.

'Freedom Riders' presented in Fox Hall

The Center for Spiritual Life at Eckerd College will present "Freedom Riders: The Peacemaker and the Warrior," at 7:30 p.m. Monday in Fox Hall at Eckerd College, 4200 54th Ave. S, St. Petersburg.

Hank Thomas and Ben Cox, two of the original Freedom Riders, will reflect on their experiences of 1961 as they set out for the Deep South to defy Jim Crow laws and call for change. PINELLAS PARK

Kids of all ages can learn puppetry

Good Samaritan Church, 6085 Park Blvd., Pinellas Park, will hold a Puppet Workshop for children and adults 10 a.m. to noon Saturday as part of its monthly series, "Spirituality and the Arts." Participants will be introduced to the history and techniques of puppetry and make their own puppets. They also will give a performance.
