Meet candidates on Monday

Two events will be presented by the Largo/Mid-Pinellas Chamber of Commerce. One debate-style forum will be sponsored by the Republican Club of Greater Largo.

The Republican Club's event will begin with dinner at 6 p.m. Oct. 15 at Alfano's Restaurant, 1702 Clearwater-Largo Road. The debate will begin about 6:45 p.m. The cost for dinner is $18. For information, call Evelyn Leonhardt at 524-3048.

The chamber's first forum will take place during its monthly business luncheon from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 16 at East Bay Country Club. Cost for lunch is $10 in advance and $15 at the door. East Bay Country Club is located at 702 Country Club Drive. For reservations, call 584-2321.

The second chamber event, the Get Out and Vote Forum at City Hall, will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 17 in City Commission chambers. The forum will also be televised live on LTV Ch. 15 and repeated several times before the Nov. 6 election. Suggested questions can be sent by e-mail to

The first opportunity to get to know Largo City Commission candidates will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the general meeting of the Pinellas County Republican Executive Committee. The group will meet with Largo candidates and those for St. Petersburg's City Council. Candidates will get an opportunity to introduce themselves and answer questions. The meeting will be held at Tucson's Southwest Grill, 13563 Icot Blvd. The restaurant is at the Icot Center on Ulmerton Road, just east of U.S. 19.

Sewer plan, crime on work session's agenda

City Commissioners will meet for a workshop at 6 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall. The staff will update commissioners on plans for the new community center and the plan for preventing sewer overflows. Largo police Chief Lester Aradi will also present a report on Largo crime trends. The meeting will be televised live on LTV Ch. 15.
