Cross Country: Calvary's Cathey prevails, Seminole siblings second

Pinellas County runners fared well at the 12th annual Walt Disney World Classic, with Calvary Christian's Joe Cathey winning the boys Class A 5K on Saturday.
The two-day event at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex included athletes from colleges and high schools across the nation.
Cathey, a senior, won in 15:53.28, and the Warriors finished fifth overall. Shorecrest finished third among the Class A boys, with Stephen Spano the Chargers' highest finisher at 15th in 17:38.73.
Siblings Katie (19:23.28) and Christian Homme (16:15.00), both of Seminole, each finished second in Class 3A races. Christian Homme, a senior, paced the Warhawk boys to second-place overall finish, while Katie, a sophomore, paced the girls to third. Clearwater's Maddy Stills also placed 10th (20:34.59) in the 3A girls race.
In the Class A girls 5K, Shorecrest freshman Lindsey Evans finished seventh (19:56.93). The Shorecrest girls finished fourth overall and Keswick Christian, led by seventh-grader Hannah Palm (17th, 21:01.78), fifth overall.
More than 2,400 runners were registered in the high school division.
flrunners invitational: Countryside finished third overall in the boys 5K invitational in Titusville. Sophmore Zachary Christenson (17:15.46) was the Cougars' highest finisher, placing 14th. In the boys varsity open, St. Petersburg junior Wes Reynolds finished fourth in 17:12.00.
On Friday, Admiral Farragut senior Alex Banks finished ninth (17:36.94) in the boys 5K small school race. The Blue Jackets finished 10th overall.
