Nicco Nook, early but lost charm
By Times Staff Writer
Published October 8, 2007
Adistinctive early home in New Port Richey was the residence of Walter K. Jahn. The home, known as Nicco Nook, appears on many early postcards. It was on what is now Grand Boulevard near Sims Park. On Feb. 23, 1922, the New Port Richey Press reported, "The report of the entire destruction by fire this Thursday noon of the beautiful New Port Richey home of W. K. Jahn (Nicco Nook) will be read with as much regret by our widespread subscribers as we ourselves feel. The explosion of a gasoline stove in the kitchen is supposed to be the cause of the disaster. In a moment, almost, the building was enveloped in flames, and within an hour it was burned to the ground. All the valuable furniture and effects, including priceless oriental rugs, the personal clothing and valuables of Mrs. Jahn, Mrs. Black and the house guests are included in the loss."
