Lakewood holds on for needed district win
Lakewood beats Bradenton Bayshore 14-7.

ST. PETERSBURG - Lakewood senior linebacker Clarence Scott claims he was never nervous.
Not even with Bradenton Bayshore driving to the Spartans' 25, setting up for the potential winning score in the makeup district matchup.
"No worries at all," Scott said. "We've got a very strong defense. ... We're fast - and we never give up."
The Spartans' defense showed just that in a 14-7 win Monday night, giving Lakewood 3-2, 1-1 a district win and momentum before meeting Largo (5-0) on Friday.
To start the rally, senior defensive lineman Kyle Voight recovered a botched Bayshore handoff with 2:51 left, sparking the Spartans' seven-play, 68-yard drive.
Lakewood quarterback Victor Perkins, contained in Friday's rainstorm, connected with Shayon Headly for a 26-yard pass over the middle. Four plays later, Jacquez Jenkins took a misdirection counter handoff and scampered for a 3-yard winning score with 57 seconds left.
But to seal the deal, the Spartans' defense had to stop Bayshore on its final drive. There was defensive back Bernard Reedy, tackling Bayshore's Marquis Sanders inbounds. There were defensive lineman Vauchard Goodridge and linebacker Bar'ee Boyd combining for a big sack. And there was Paul Britten, sealing the win with a leaping interception in the final seconds.
