Denial of appeal keeps Sembler project on track

ST. PETERSBURG Sembler moved closer to starting a mixed-use development at Ninth Avenue N and 66th Street after the state Division of Administrative Hearings denied a neighborhood appeal. The developer got city approval this year for a rezoning on the 18-acre project, but residents of the Eagle Crest Neighborhood Association across Ninth appealed the decision to the state and sued in Circuit Court. The state denial may make the lawsuit moot, but Sembler said it is waiting before closing on the property from the Diocese of St. Petersburg and before starting construction of 120 townhomes, 13,000 square feet for offices and 13,000 square feet for retail. if thats the case why wasn't the project for 5th avenue north near the "old northeast" section of town approved. wonder who lives in that neighborhood with enough clout to block it. sembler should not be allowed to build on 9th and 66th.

It's about time that Sembler can move forward with this project. Empty land is of no value to anyone, while growth brings in taxes that at this time the City can use!
