EAST LAKE - The knife-wielding robber wore a mask, but detectives hope a tattoo on his arm is a giveaway.

The man went into the Circle K at 3470 East Lake Road about 1:45 a.m. Wednesday, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.

Brandishing a knife, he demanded cash from the register, received an undisclosed amount of money from the clerk, then ran out. No one was hurt.

The robber had dark collar-length hair and covered his mouth and nose with a bandana, but a surveillance photo shows a tattoo on the inside of his left forearm.

The tattoo appears to be round and about the size of an orange. It is darkly inked on the outside and has a lighter, U-shaped pattern on the inside.

Sheriff's officials described the robber as a white man in his late teens or early 20s who stands about 5 feet 9 and has a medium build. He was last seen wearing a blue ball cap, gray T-shirt, khaki shorts and white athletic shoes.

Investigators ask anyone with information about the robber to call sheriff's Detective Paul Martin at (727) 582-6200. Tipsters also can remain anonymous and call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-8477, can submit information online at www.crimestoppersofpinellas.org, or can send a text message to 25735 with the keyword TIP144 in the first line of the message.
